“If nothing else, maybe this pulls us together stronger than ever before. And we come out the other side of it completely different. Changed in a way we might not have been otherwise. I think that this could be important for the next stage of human evolution and change”
In this thought-provoking episode of Bounce Back Stronger, Donna Ferris sits down with author and relationship expert Crystal Jackson to explore the cultural pressures shaping women's lives—from the "decentering men" movement to the relentless media push for consumerism. Crystal dives into how societal expectations, patriarchal norms, and the subconscious desire to be "chosen" impact women's self-worth and relationships.
Together, they unpack the shift from external validation to self-empowerment, the roots of "Pick Me" culture (hello, Grey’s Anatomy fans), overconsumption, and how women can reclaim their narrative by focusing on their own needs, goals, and identities—outside of the male gaze.
Whether you’re navigating dating, healing from a breakup, or simply craving more autonomy in your life, this conversation offers insightful strategies for self-prioritization and authentic living.

“If your focus is on fear, it will bring fear.  We're very empathic creatures. What is bothering me, disturbing my peace, or taking my light away? Whatever it is, you have to choose to turn it off, walk away, and say no. Because your peace is more important than anything.”
In this episode, psychic medium Cristina Leeson shares insights about the transformative energy of 2025—a “9-year” symbolizing wisdom, endings, and humanitarianism. Discover how to break free from self-sabotage, connect with your spiritual gifts, and maintain your light in chaotic times. “Taking the road less traveled is really challenging but can be worth it...I've had a lot of very deep low points that I don't want to gloss over when I talk about my life because it might sound like one big adventure, but it doesn't always feel that way when you're living in it. But at the same time, I do think that making some unconventional decisions has allowed me to get closer to what's right for me. And I don't feel like I've taken a lot of wrong turns because I haven't done anything that isn’t authentic to who I am, and that's a real gift.”
In this episode of Bounce Back Stronger, host Donna Ferris sits down with Zanny Merullo Steffgen, a freelance writer and travel enthusiast who has charted her own unique path in life. Zanny opens up about overcoming the challenges of living with cystic fibrosis, choosing travel and work over college, and finding her voice through writing. From bartending in Cambodia to penning award-nominated travel stories, Zanny shares her journey of resilience, cultural connection, and the lessons learned from taking the road less traveled.
She also talks about "Hi Zan, Hi Pa" - a unique Substack collaboration with her father, author, Roland Merullo." Information on the Substack and Zanny’s writing can be found at zannymerullosteffgen.com.

“It is really important to be honest with kids about difficult situations. And one way you can do that is to let their questions be your guide. There's a rule of thumb, if a kid is old enough to ask a question, they're old enough to get an honest answer.”
This week Bounce Back Stronger, host Donna Ferris sits down with Jenny Lisk, founder of the Widowed Parent Institute and author of Future Widow and Widowed Parents Unite.
Jenny shares her personal journey through loss, how she found her purpose in helping other widowed parents, and the invaluable lessons she’s learned along the way. From memoir writing as an act of service (which involved wearing a shirt that said “Nevertheless, She Persisted”) to supporting children through grief, Jenny’s insights serve as a beacon for anyone navigating life after loss. She also lists concrete actions you can take to help grieving families.  Whether navigating your own loss or supporting someone who is, this episode is filled with practical tips, wisdom, and hope.
